ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has increased the cost of electricity by Rs1.81 per unit on account of the monthly fuel cost adjustment, on Wednesday.
The Nepra will later issue a detailed decision and also a notification in this regard.
The increase in the power price was approved on account of the fuel cost adjustment for the month of June.
The latest hike in the electricity rate will help Nepra raise Rs24 billion from consumers. However, the increase in the electricity price will not be applicable to the K-Electric consumers.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested to increase the electricity price by Rs1.88 per unit.
Nepra’s latest decision came on the heels of its green signal to government’s request to increase the electricity tariff by massive over seven rupees. The authority gave the go-ahead to the government on Tuesday to hike the electricity tariff by Rs7.50 per unit.
It sent the decision to the federal government for notification. However, the lifeline consumers will be exempted from the increase.
The federal government made a request to Nepra for an increase in the basic electricity price.
The price hike has been proposed to be implemented from July 1.
