New Indian ambassador presents credentials to Afghan President

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani received the credentials of the new Ambassador of India to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar. The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said a ceremony was organized in ARG Palace where Ambasador Kumar presented his credentials to President Ghani.

The two sides also discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to further improve relations and cooperation between the two nations.

Pointing towards India’s cooperation with Afghanistan, President Ghani said India is a good friend and strategic partner of Afghanistan as he wished Ambassador Kumar success in his new mission.

In his turn, Ambassador Kumar expressed satisfaction regarding the launch of his new duty and mission in Afghanistan and said the two countries have good friendly relations and bilateral cooperation more than any other time.

However, he said he will step up efforts to further boost cooperation and strengthen relations between the two nations.

India has played a major role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban regime and has invested over $2 billion in various reconstruction and infrastructure projects.

The construction of the major Salma Dam, the new Afghan parliament building, Zaranj-Delaram highway, and some other projects are among the key investments India has done so far in the country.

The government of India pledged a fresh aid package of $1 billion to support the reconstruction projects in Afghanistan during a visit by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in late 2016.
