New irrigation channel opens in Bara

BARA: Four thousand two hundred and twenty six meter long irrigation channel, constructed under Governor Special Development Program (GSDP) was inaugurated here in Meri Khel, Aka Khel area of Tehsil Bara on Monday.

In this connection a simple gathering was initiated that was attended by Political Agent, Khyber Agency Khalid Mehmood as chief guest beside numbers of tribal elites and FATA Secretariat and administration officials. The administration top official unveiled the plaque to formally open the canal.

Speaking on the occasion Khalid Mehmood said that government intended to develop the tribal belt and the established project was part of it. He urged the tribal to get advantage of the newly erected water channel and instead of misuse of their time, grow gardens and enhance cultivation to make the area self-sufficient in food items.

Sharing details of the project GSDP Khyber engineer Mr. Zafar said that the” Minor E” scheme had completed in two phases with cost of 27 million rupees. He added that approximately 3500 acre land would be irrigated of the channel that would benefit thousands of families of Aka Khel.

The dwellers of the area expressed their delight on the completion of the development work and said earlier the water had got waste but now it would be utilized for agricultural purpose and would cause green revolution in the Bara.
