New reforms underway in MoE, says official

KABUL: A senior Ministry of Education official says new reforms are being implemented in the ministry, brushing aside rumours that the Islamic Education department has been disbanded.

In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok News, Dr. Attaullah Wahidyar, deputy head of education and training department at MoE, said they had brought four small departments under one department called education and training.

He said no department, including Islamic Education department, had been disbanded as rumoured by some biased circles.

Wahidyar said the presence of parallel institutions in the ministry was major problem which would be addressed as part of the new reforms. He added there had been a debate to bring reforms in the ministry for the past five years, which were finally initiated by the new leadership and besides the general education, special attention would be paid to Darul Ulum and Darul Hifaz students.

“In the past, the MoE had a department of teaching. We got back to the same structure. Islamic studies, general education, literacy, curriculum and teacher training have all come under one umbrella and designated education and training,” he explained. (Pajhwok)
