New York’s apartment fire kills 12

NEW YORK: As many as 12 people were killed and four others were injured after a fire tore through a Bronx apartment building on Thursday in New York.

The fire broke out around 7:00pm (0000 GMT Friday) in the 25-apartment building opposite the Bronx Zoo in New York.

A one-year-old child was among those killed in the fire on a bitterly cold night with temperatures well below zero, as Red Cross volunteers handed out blankets and set up makeshift shelter in a nearby school.

Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York told media persons that the recent tragic incident is one of the worst losses of life to a fire in many, many years of the New York history.

As per the local media outlet, the fire began on the first floor and rapidly engulfed the all five floors of the building. The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear.

Mayor confirmed that 12 people were killed and four others were critically injured who are fighting for their lives.
