No military meeting on political crisis held: Yaftali

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Army Chief Lt. General Mohammad Sharif Yaftali on Wednesday said that the army would stay neutral in all political issues, and operate under the leadership of the Commander –in-chief of armed forces.

Addressing reporters at Government Media and Information Centre (GMIC) Gen. Yaftali strongly rejected the allegations of an unknown Afghan lawmaker to Wall Street Journal about a military meeting related to the recent political issues in Balkh and said that no meeting in this regard had been held.

General Yaftali also said that ANA represented national power and the will of all Afghans and operated neutrally protecting the national interests.

He urged the national and international media to reflect realities about Afghan army in order to avoid misperception about the military involvement in political issues.
