No threat of flood anywhere in Punjab so far: CM Naqvi

LAHORE (PPI): Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Sunday while talking to the media that there was no threat of flood anywhere in the province so far. During a visit to the bank of Ravi River to inspect preparations against the possible flooding, the chief minister said that India had released the same amount of water the previous year too which gradually reduced to 13,000 cusecs.
He said that rescue officials were present at all points of the river, adding that all safety measures were in place in view of the possible flooding.
He said that the population in the course of the river would have to be evacuated, adding that steps would be taken to save the lives of humans as well as animals in possible floods.
“The district and local administrations are keeping a close eye on the situation. There is a forecast for rain for the next two months too. An operation will be launched against the constructions in the course of the river,” he stated.
Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider and provincial ministers including Aamir Mir and Azfar Ali Nasir accompanied the chief minister. According to rescue sources, a 14,000 cusecs water current is currently passing at the point of Shahdara. The rescue and civil defence teams are present at Ravi River to deal with any emergency situation. The joint operation will continue for 24 hours.
