F.P. Report
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Friday said there was no truth in reports for an NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) for members of opposition parties, according to sources.
The prime minister chaired a meeting of government and party leaders during which the country’s political situation was discussed.
“There has been no deal with the PML-N or PPP,” sources quoted Prime Minister Khan as saying. He further said that a response would be given to criticism being leveled by the opposition.
Khan also directed those present at the meeting to fully present the government’s position to the masses.
It is pertinent to mention here that members of PM Khan’s cabinet have been accusing the PML-N and PPP of pressurising the government to seek relaxation in ongoing inquiries and cases against their members.
On Wednesday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said in a video message that no one would be given an NRO during the tenure of the PTI government.
“We are seeing there is the talk of an NRO. Imran Khan and PTI have fought against corruption for 22 years. This was not a personal fight, but that of the people of Pakistan. Saying that someone will get NRO is impossible,” Chaudhry had said.
However, the PML-N and PPP have repeatedly demanded the government to name the individuals seeking an NRO from it.
