Monitoring Desk
KABUL: One week after the de-escalation of tensions over the appoinment of the new police chief in Balkh, the former governor of Balkh and the CEO of Jamiat-e-Islami party, Atta Mohammad Noor, called for implementation of agreement which has been made between him and acting ministers of Defense and Interior Affairs.
In a video message sent to media, Noor warns that he will use any option if the agreement is not implemented.
Noor is not talking about the details of the agreement which has been made between him and the security heads but says that they agreed on a third option.
“Expecting the implementation of the agreement… The previous agreement (between him and Ghani) was violated. The two senior security ministers came to Balkh and agreed on a third agreement and now if the agreement is not implemented, which I believe the ministers will implement it, we have all options on the desk. Of course, we do not want war until the war is imposed on us,” Noor said.
“We have lots of options that can be used but be sure for now our logic is not war, but we will not sit calm, but we expect for a good result,” Noor added.
This comes after Gen. Abdul Raqib Mubariz was appointed as new police chief of Balkh late last week, replacing Ikramuddin Saami, who was favorite to Atta Mohammad Noor.
The move led to hours of gunfight in Mazar-e-Sharif city between security forces and armed men as well as police force members loyal to Noor.
