ISLAMABAD: A Norwegian female mountaineer has arrived in Pakistan as part of her quest to beat the time record to summit the 14 highest peaks in six months.

Kristin Harilla has already climbed six mountain peaks over 8,000 metres (26,250) high, including Mount Everest in the last two months.

The 36-year-old climber is now in Pakistan in her quest to become the fastest woman to climb all the 8000m-plus 14 peaks with an eye on summitting K2 and Nanga Parbhat, the two most dangerous peaks for the mountaineers.

Harilla said: “In history and until now, it has been the strong macho men going out climbing mountains.”

She also added when she talks to people who are not into this sport, they believe that men are more capable than women.

“If we are going to change (this perception), we need to get attention and show that women are just as capbale.”
