NSA for absorbing Madaris in mainstream edu system

ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser, Lt General (Retd) Nasser Khan Janjua Monday held a meeting to review progress of reforms for mainstreaming of Madaris students.

The meeting discussed matters regarding curriculum, strategy and procedures involved in process of mainstreaming, proposed system of examination and further up gradation of Madaris in future.

Besides Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, the meeting was attended by prominent members of Itehad-e- Tanzeemat-e-Madaris Pakistan, Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman, Qari Muhammad Hanif Jalandhri, Muhammad Yasin Zafar, Maulana Abdul Malik, Maulana Niyaz Hussain Naqvi and higher officials from different departments of education ministry and Higher Education Commission.

During the meeting, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf appreciated efforts towards this noble cause of mainstreaming of Madaris student. Nasser Janjua sought comments of participants on different aspects of roadmap suggested so far to enable students of Madaris to get absorbed in mainstream educational system which would enable them to become an effective citizen of the country with an opportunity to join any profession of their choice like everyone-else. Points of agreement and disagreement were discussed in detail.

All appreciated progress made so far and reiterated to continue to work together for provision of better opportunities to students of Madaris.

Furthermore A delegation from European Union including Mr. Roland Kobia, EU special envoy to Afghanistan accompanied by Mr. Jean Francois Cautain, EU Ambassador to Pakistan met National Security Adviser Lt. Gen ( R ) Nasser  Khan Janjua this morning. Matters pertaining to regional security situation with a particular reference to Afghanistan, were discussed in detail.

The envoy expressed his commitment to advance European Union’s contribution to deliver lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and in the region. “European Union is aiming at bringing peace in Afghanistan by coordinating and consulting with all the regional and international countries” he said. He also acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and for regional peace and stability. “EU recognizes the challenges faced by Pakistan and appreciates the way Pakistan is responding to those challenges.” he added.

The envoy sought NSA’s opinion on the issues of counter terrorism, military and intelligence cooperation and internal political peace process in Afghanistan.

NSA explained the security situation in Afghanistan at length. NSA highlighted the complexities of the perpetual conflict in Afghanistan and briefed the role played and contributions made by Pakistan to fight the menace of terrorism.

NSA sensitized the delegates over the fragility of the region and reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment towards peace in Afghanistan and the region. He underscored that a cooperative framework is required to resolve conflict in Afghanistan and stressed the need of a political solution to the conflict. Coercing Pakistan will be unhelpful and it will not take us anywhere.

Both sides agreed that by means of progression, cooperation and economic interdependence, this region can be made more stable.
