Numerous dead, injured in separate clashes

HERAT: Security forces killed 30 Taliban and wounded 16 others after a clash in Paktiya province, police said Thursday.

Taliban gunmen attacked police posts in Sikandarkhil area of Ahmadkhil district, said Sardar Wali Tabassum, spokesman of Paktia police.

In the ensuing clash, three police and 30 Taliban were killed while four cops and 16 Taliban gunmen wounded, he told Afghan media.

He said one of the landmine allegedly emplaced by Taliban on Ahmadkhil-Zazi Aryub road exploded on a civilian vehicle, killing a man and woman, adding the security forces were busy in clearing the landmines.

Separately, two police were killed and four more wounded when Taliban attacked a post of special police in Samad Doz area of Maqur district, Badghis province, said Jamsheed Shahabi, spokesman of Badghis police.

He said 10 Taliban also suffered casualties in the clash. There was no word by Taliban in this regard.
