Omari stresses need to mechanize agricultural in Kunduz

KUNDUZ (TOLONews): Attaullah Omari, acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, in a meeting with local officials, farmers, and residents of Kunduz, emphasized the mechanization of agriculture and livestock in the province.

In the meeting, Omari also pledged to make efforts to establish standard cold storage facilities and address the challenges faced by the residents of Kunduz.

He said, “In the field of agriculture, it’s not just about cold storage; plant protection, plant quarantine, improved seeds, and the identification of water, soil, and air are all gaps we are working step by step to address.”

Farmers and local officials in Kunduz called for cooperation in marketing the province’s agricultural products.

Mohammad Hanif, a farmer, said, “Just as watermelons were very cheap this year, honorable Minister, please take whatever measures are necessary regarding watermelons so that next year we can export them wherever we want.”

Mohammad Nasim Rasuli, Deputy Trade Director of Kunduz Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said, “The problem is very serious. Some products, like onions, become cheap in their season. Pakistan buys them and sells them back to us at high prices when they are out of season.”

Kunduz is one of the agricultural and livestock provinces in northern Afghanistan, known for its various agricultural products such as wheat, barley, maize, rice, watermelons, and melons.
