One killed, 40 persons feared trapped in building collapse incident in Mumbai

MUMBAI: One person was killed and 40 more people were feared trapped when a building collapsed on Thursday in India’s financial capital of Mumbai.

The four storey residential building was collapse in the morning in heavily populated area of Bhendi Bazaar, after heavy rains killed 10 people in the city.

Official of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) told media that one body was recovered from the rubble of the collapse building.

He added that four people have been rescued so far and feared that dozens of other were trapped but the 43 member’s team is conducting rescue operations to safely rescue the people.

Official added that at least eight to nine families have been living in the building.

Incidents of building collapses are common in India and most especially during the monsoon season heavy lashing the Mumbai and other parts of the country.
