One killed, five injured during forest fire

ABBOTTABAD: Forester Javed Akhtar succumbed to burn injuries which he sustained while fighting a forest fire in Gooreni forests of Abbottabad and Haripur, on Saturday afternoon.

As per details, the team of forest departments including forester and other official’s team was sent to extinguish the fire. During quenching the fires forester Javed Akhtar died and five others guards were critically injured.

Talking to The Frontier Post DFO Abbottabad Sardar Saleem and DFO Haripur Rizwan Shah told that on Saturday at about 7 p.m forest fires erupted in Goreeni area where forest team responded timely but, unfortunately due to wind blowing jungle caught fire and spread rapidly as a result they get succumbed. One of our foresters died on the spot while five others were critically injured. Later they were rushed to Wholly Family Hospital Rawalpindi where they were given treatment. Today we spent several hours with the families of the Forestry division employees injured in yesterday’s fire.

Secretary forests KP Syed Nazar Shah took notice of the matter and ordered inquiry. They said that they would not spare any person involved in forest fire and bring him before the court.

“Our prayers are with Javed Akhtar’s family as we mourn his loss one day ago,” they added.
