Opposition benches exchange harsh words in PA

PESHAWAR: Treasury and opposition benches of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Monday exchanged harsh words over the lack of quorum in the house. Due to the lack of quorum the proceedings of the house were adjourned twice.

The opposition retaliated with staging walk out when the Speaker Asad Qaiser accept the demand of Minister for Information Shah Farman, ruled to amend the agenda and resume Friday’s debate regarding law and order.

The opposition stressed the completion of the agenda of the day first and then Shah Farman should address but the Speaker remained unmoved. When the opposition was staging walk out, Fakhar-e-Azam Wazir of Pakistan Peoples’ Party pointed out the lack of quorum in the house.

The Speaker adjourned the proceedings for 15 minutes. However, after the break proceeding was once again adjourned till Tuesday as only 10 legislators of treasury benches were present in the house.

During the question-hour, the opposition slammed treasury benches when the Speaker deferred different questions of opposition due to absence of concerned ministers. Parliamentary Leader of Awami National Party (ANP), Sardar Hussain Babak asked the government to work seriously during its five months.

He said that the PTI led coalition government did nothing during its tenure. He was critical of the incumbent KP government for inaugurating the schemes initiated by the previous ANP government.

Meanwhile, in his privilege motion, Munawar Khan of JUIF, criticized Higher Education Department for violation of the decision of Privilege Committee of the house regarding inauguration of library in his constituency PK-76 Lakki Marwat.

Furthermore The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning US president Donald Trump’s decision of accepting Jerusalem as capital of Israel and termed it anti Islam and tantamount to hurting the sentiments of entire Muslim Ummah.

The resolution moved by Fakhar Azam of PPP was given unanimous nod by the House when it was put to vote by the chair Speaker Asad Qaiser.

The resolution stated that the Muslim Ummah has rejected the decision of US President in a manner which has no precedence and Islamic Ummah deserves applause and appreciation.

Shifting of US embassy to Al-Quds was an attempt to sabotage the international consensus, pitching Muslims against each other and pursuing policy of divide and rule remained the cornerstone of US policy from day one.

However, it said, the unity of Muslim Ummah rejected the decision in tooth and nail. The Pakistan government has rejected the US decision in a very bold manner, truly representing the sentiments of people of Pakistan, the resolution stated adding that the Pakistani nation would continue to reject this decision at every forum.

Therefore the KP Assembly demanded of the federal government to utilize its diplomatic channel in effective manners against making the Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

The USA and Israel should be stopped from such decisions and a meeting of Muslim countries should be called to evolve a consensus on the subject matter.

Furthermore Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Monday unanimously passes a resolution demanding right to vote for overseas Pakistanis in the upcoming general elections 2018.

The resolution moved by Deputy Speaker Mehr Taj Roghani was given unanimous nod by the House when it was put to vote by the chair Speaker Asad Qaiser.

The resolution stated that several Pakistanis are residing abroad for employment and they are deprived of their birth right due to their absence from the country. Therefore, the House demanded of the government to give right to vote to overseas Pakistani in the general elections.
