Opposition evolve strategy for NA session

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, called on Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, in his chamber at the NA on Wednesday and discussed the hooliganism witnessed on floor of the House on Tuesday (June 15).

The two leaders also discussed the strategy to be adopted by the opposition with respect to the national budget presented by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government for the next financial year, 2021-22.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Shazia Marri and Syed Naveed Qamar were part of the PPP’s delegation while PML-N president was accompanied by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Sanaullah and Marriyum Aurangzeb on the occasion.

Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has condemned the non-civilized behaviour on the part of legislators belonging to ruling PTI on the NA floor on Tuesday (June 15).

He was of the view that by demonstrating complete intolerance towards the opposition and using non-parliamentary language, the PTI had torn the sanctity of the House to bits and pieces. “Selected Prime Minister Imran Khan by directing his party parliamentarians to use foul language against members of the opposition parties is trying to shield his ‘incompetence’,” he alleged.

Bilawal opined that shouting abuses was unbecoming of member of the parliament. “Instead of debating people’s issues and legislating on matters of public interest, the tendency on the part of lawmakers to indulge in hooliganism is not a good precedent,” PPP chairman said, and added that the parliamentarians would have to set good examples by performing their duties rather than turning the parliament into a battlefield.
