KABUL (Agencies): The Afghan government has announced the release of thousands of prisoners from prisons across the country on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and the holy month of Ramadan.
The Supreme Court said that 2,460 people were released from various prisons based on the instructions of the leadership of the Islamic Emirate and the Ministry of Justice.
Based on Supreme Court decree, combined delegations were appointed to identify the prisoners who deserve amnesty across the country, and after investigations, around 2460 people were identified as deserving of release and a reduction in the prison term.
The Islamic Emirate had already assured timely investigation of the prisoners’ cases and good treatment of them.
