Over 400 prisoners transferred from Iran to Afghanistan

KABUL (TOLONews): Over the past year, more than 400 Afghan prisoners who had been sentenced to imprisonment in Iran have been transferred to Afghanistan in two separate rounds.

The spokesperson for the Prison Affairs Administration stated that the transferred prisoners are receiving all necessary services, including the right to meet with their families.

Mohammad Nasim Lalahand, spokesperson for the Prison Affairs Administration, told TOLOnews: “408 individuals have been handed over. The Prison Affairs Administration has provided all necessary facilities for them.”

Meanwhile, Suhail Shaheen, the acting ambassador of the Islamic Emirate in Qatar, reported that thirteen Afghan citizens are currently imprisoned in Qatar. He also spoke of efforts to address the challenges faced by these detainees.

The acting ambassador of the Islamic Emirate in Qatar told TOLOnews: “There are a total of thirteen Afghan prisoners in Qatar. Last week, the consul of the Islamic Emirate and I, along with the head of prisoners’ affairs, visited the central prison of Qatar. We listened to their concerns and shared them with the responsible authorities.”

Military affairs expert Hadi Quraishi told TOLOnews: “According to UN conventions and mutual agreements between Afghanistan and countries where Afghans are imprisoned, detainees should be transferred to Afghanistan and their cases handed over to Afghan authorities.”

Previously, on April 17 of this year, the Prison Affairs Administration had reported that nearly 200 Afghan citizens, who had been sentenced in Iran to medium- and long-term prison terms, had been handed over to Afghanistan.
