Over 4000 cops to guard most sensitive polling stations in Dir

LOWER DIR: The district administration here on Tuesday announced its control and monitoring rooms for all concerned in the district.

Talking to local journalists at Timergara an official said that a total of 4274 policemen and 500 personnel of the Dir Levis would perform security duties.

He said that a district monitoring control room had been set up at the deputy commissioner office which would remain functional till the end of Feb 9. Similar control rooms had been set up in the offices of all the seven returning officers. Deputy Commissioner Wasil Khan meanwhile visited the technical college Khaima and examined the packing and dispatching of election materials.

Meanwhile the regional police officer Malakand range Muhammad Ali Khan along with district police officer Ziaud Din and other officials visited different polling stations in Ouch and Chakdara. The RPO checked the security arrangements at the most sensitive polling stations, their boundary walls, CCTV cameras, entry and exit points and directed the police officers to remain vigilant on polls’ day.

The total population of Lower Dir district is 16,60,528 including 817545 men, 842927 women and 26 transgender persons. The number of registered voters in the district is 870,852 including 481,409 men and 389,043 women. The district has two national and five provincial assembly constituencies. In NA 6 Lower Dir-I the number of registered voters is 457,075 including 253,972 male and 203,103 female. In NA 7 Lower Dir-II the number of registered voters is 413,777 including 227,837 male and 185,940 female.

The DC also imposed section 144 on any kind of aerial firing, taking of mobile phones inside a polling station, entry of men in polling stations or polling booths for women and standing on tops of houses near to any polling station in the district.
