Over 6 million Afghan migrants reside in Iran

KABUL (Khaama Press): Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the special representative of the Iranian president for Afghanistan, stated that currently, more than 6 million Afghan migrants are living in Iran.

Mr. Qomi, made these remarks on Saturday, February 24th, during an interview with an Iranian media outlet. The special representative of the Iranian president added, “The migration of people from Afghanistan is due to the crises created by the Americans in that country.”

The Taliban has not yet commented on this statistic given by the Iranian representative about the Afghan migrants in Iran, but the trend of expelling migrants by the Islamic Republic of Iran has continued recently.

This comes as the Ministry of Migrants has recently announced that just yesterday, about 1,588 Afghan migrants residing in Iran entered the country through the Islam Qala-Herat border after being expelled.

Afghan migrants in Iran encounter numerous challenges from Iranian authorities and citizens alike. These challenges include harassment, incarceration, disrespect for their rights, and forced deportation.

In a recent incident in Tehran, an Iranian individual pushed an Afghan migrant from a bridge, resulting in the migrant’s death. This incident sparked widespread criticism from human rights activists and Afghan citizens on social media platforms.

The tragic event of an Afghan migrant being killed by an Iranian citizen underscores the vulnerability and risks faced by Afghan migrants in Iran. Such incidents highlight the urgent need for greater protection of migrants’ rights and accountability for perpetrators of violence against them.

As human rights advocates and Afghan communities raise their voices against such acts of violence, it emphasizes the importance of promoting tolerance, respect, and dignity for all individuals, regardless of their nationality or migration status, within Iranian society.
