Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said Pakistan China relationship was unique and robust and had proven its resilience in the face of challenges. The Army Chief observed these thoughts during a reception arranged by the Pakistan Army in connection to the 94th Anniversary of the formation of Chinese Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) at GHQ. According to ISPR, the COAS commended PLA’s leadership and lauded PLA’s role in China’s defence, security and nation building while highlighting various facets of the deep-rooted ties between the two states, militaries, and the people. The COAS said that Pakistan China partnership is vital for regional peace and stability and our past and present testifies that both Countries never gave in to challenges. Army Chief noted that PLA and Pakistan Army were brothers in arms and their relationship would continue to contribute towards safeguarding their collective interests. Chinese Defence attaché Major General Chen Wenrong reciprocated similar thoughts and said that China and Pakistan were iron brothers, all-weather friends, and strategic partners. Wenrong noted that no matter how the world situation changes, both Countries will always stand together in safeguarding their national sovereignty, territorial integrity and maintaining regional peace and stability.

Pakistan and China marked the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship on 21 May 2021 and both countries are celebrating the year 2021 as friendship year. Today, the whole world is astonished at the unparalleled level of bilateral relations between the two governments, two militaries and the People of the two countries. There is no doubt that Pak-China friendship proved to be unbreakable, time tested and all season’s relationship over the seven decades. To know the very origin of the Pakistan-China friendship, the world must look back into history when the first non-socialist Pakistan recognized the newly created People Republic of China and voted in the favor of PRC representation at the United Nations. Later, both countries settled down their border dispute amicably which further paved the way for their friendship. The foundation of Pak-China friendship was laid on the principles of peaceful coexistence, respect of each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and each other’s support during hours of need.

Pakistan provided China a corridor to enter the western world and helped establish its relations with the United States and helped in achieving its seat at UNO. China kicked off its industrial revolution during the late 1970s and became the largest business and industrial hub in the world. Over the decades, China had always stood beside Pakistan during difficult times. Currently, Pakistan has utmost importance for the People’s Republic of China due to its location, military strength, and connectivity to the rest of the world through CPEC in case of any military conflict or Sea blockade by China’s adversaries in the coming days. The rapidly changing geostrategic environment of the world and communal aims, interests, friends, and foes had further brought the two nations closer to each other. Both China and Pakistan are equally important, interdependent, and inevitable for each other. Hopefully, Pak-China friendship will reach new heights and would be an example for the rest of the world in coming days.
