Pak donates $5m equipment to Jalalabad Kidney Hospital

JALALABAD: Pakistan donated $5.5 million equipment to kidney hospital in Jalalabad, capital of eastern Nangarhar province.

The construction work on the national kidney hospital has been completed with the assistance of Pakistan and $5 million equipment donated by Pakistan under the same agreement has arrived, said Muhammad Gulab Mangal, governor of Nangahar province, while speaking at ceremony in the hospital.

Muhammad Gulab Mangal said the public health ministry had also supplied dialysis equipment to the hospital.

The governor thanked Pakistan for the donation of medical equipment and other resources to the hospital, saying the supply of equipment enabled the hospital to provide treatment to kidney patients within the country.

Najeebullah Kamawal, director Nangarhar public health department, said four shipment containers carrying the equipment acquired in France and Pakistan, have arrived in the hospital.

He said the first phase of Pakistan’s assistance was the construction of the hospital building, second phase was supply of equipment and third is training of medical staff, adding 75 nurses have already been trained while 42 more would be provided training.

Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General of Pakistan in Jalalabad Arif Khan Betani said they were proud of providing assistance to Afghanistan in health sector on the basis of good neighbors.

Governor Muhammad Gulab Mangal, Pakistan Consul-General Arif Khan Betani, foreign affairs director Haji Hafez, public health director and other officials also inspected different sections of the hospital and inquired after the health of patients.
