Pakistan accepts Indian proposal for technical experts meeting on Katarpar Corridor

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday accepted suggestions mooted by India for bilateral talks on Kartarpur corridor.

According to Foreign Office spokesperson, the meeting of technical experts on the matter will hold a meeting on April 16. India had proposed to convene a meeting of technical experts to discuss the matter at the start of third week of April.

Without prolonging the issue or throwing red-herring into the matter, Pakistan accepted the Indian proposal. “We want completion of Katarpur corridor construction before the birth anniversary of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak,” said the FO spokesperson.

The spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal, on March 29, had invited Indian media to Pakistan for coverage of the meeting between Islamabad and New Delhi for Kartarpur Corridor. He added that the Indian journalists could apply to Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to get their visas.

In November last year, Prime Minister Imran had laid the foundation stone for the corridor. Former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, Indian Minister for Food Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Indian Minister for Housing Hardeep S Puri had attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal district of Pakistan’s Punjab province holds religious significance for the Sikh community. It is where Baba Guru Nanak settled down after his travels as a missionary. He lived there for 18 years until his death in 1539.
