The official ceremony was held in China which marks a significant step toward expanding Pakistan’s global diplomatic outreach.

Marking a historic step forward, both the leaders affirmed their commitment to the principles and objectives of United Nations Charter and discussed possible avenues of cooperation including economy, education, culture, and tourism.

Today, H.E. Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan @AraratMirzoyan, and I are pleased to sign and exchange a Joint Communiqué establishing diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia, on the sidelines of the 25th SCO Summit in Tianjin, China.

The two leaders reaffirmed their desire to work closely with each other at bilateral and multilateral fora, to achieve their shared objectives of peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of two countries.

Pakistan and Armenia

Earlier, Pakistan and Armenia did not have formal diplomatic relations. Islamabad has historically supported Azerbaijan in its disputes with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, a stance shaped by regional geopolitics.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had welcomed the peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, brokered at the White House Summit by US President Donald Trump. He congratulated both nations, reiterating Pakistan’s support for Azerbaijan while calling the agreement a milestone for regional peace.
