Pakistan beat India 5-4 in 5s Asia Hockey Cup thriller

SALALAH: Pakistan’s streak of impressive victories in the ongoing 5s Asia Hockey Cup in Salalah, Oman continued, as they defeated arch-rivals India 5-4 in a nerve-wracking match in their third match Wednesday.

Arshad Liaquat scored two goals, Zakaria Hayat, Abdul Rehman and Rana Abdul Waheed scored one goal each in Pakistan’s victory.

Pakistan Hockey Federation President Brigadier Khalid Sajjad Khokhar awarded $100 per player for their excellent performance against India.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh 15-6 in their second match. Pakistan’s Arshad Liaquat was awarded the man of the match award.

For Pakistan, captain Rana Abdul Waheed Ashraf scored 4 goals, Arshad Liaquat 3 goals, Muhammad Abdullah 3 goals, Abdul Rehman 2 goals, while Ehtesham Aslam, Murtaza Yaqub and Zakaria Hayat scored one goal each.

In the first match of the event, Pakistan beat Japan 26-1.

Head Coach World Hockey Cup Gold Medalist Pride of Performance Olympian Waseem Feroze is performing the coaching duties of Pakistan.

Pakistan team includes Goalkeepers: Abdullah Ishtiaq Khan, Ali Raza, Defender: Muhammad Abdullah, Midfields: Ehtsham Aslam, Muhammad Murtaza Yaqoob, Strikers: Arshad Liaquat, Zakaria Hayat, Rana Abdul Waheed Ashraf, Abdul Rehman and Abdul Wahab.

Eleven teams are participating in the five-sided Asia Cup, including Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong China, Kazakhstan, Malaysia and the host country Oman.
