‘Pakistan believes in peaceful resolution of all issues’

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan said Pakistan believed in peaceful resolution of all issues and appreciated the efforts of Tajikistan in promotion of peace and stability in the region.

He expressed these views, during a sideline meeting of international conference on “Counter Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism” in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, with his Tajik counterpart Lieutenant General Sher Ali Mirzo, said a press release issued here.

The minister had represented Pakistan in the high level two-day conference, held from May 3 to 4, which was organized by the Government of Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations.

During the meeting, Khurram expressed well wishes for the military and civil leadership of the Tajikistan and its people.

He highlighted that being neighbors of Afghanistan both Pakistan and Tajikistan were facing similar security challenges and threats.

The minister mentioned that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project would further provide new and unique opportunities for enhancing connectivity and integration from Gwadar to Kashgar and Muryhab in Tajikistan.

Khurram Dastgir Khan proposed to explore new avenues of defence cooperation as Pakistan had adequately advance defence industries and was producing quality products.

He also offered avenues for working out mechanisms for accelerating intelligence cooperation through high level interaction and exchange of military delegation and training of their Armed Forces in order to fight terrorism.

The minister also met Vladimir Voronkov, United Nations Under Secretary General for counter-terrorism, on the sideline of the Dushanbe Conference.
