Pakistan completes evacuation of citizens from Sudan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has completed evacuation of its citizens from Sudan where hundreds of people have lost their lives in ongoing fierce fight between the paramilitary forces and army of the African country.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed the development on Twitter. She said the evacuation mission was completed with the support from Saudi Arabia and China. She said Pakistan’s ambassador to Sudan Meer Behrose Regi made tireless efforts to ensure safe evacuation of the national stranded in the war-torn country.

Several countries, including Pakistan, launched missions to evacuate their people after fierce fighting erupted in Sudan a few weeks earlier. Hundreds have been killed as rival military factions in Sudan fight to take control the country.

In a tweet, the FO spokesperson said: “By Allah’s grace and tireless efforts of our embassy in Khartoum led by Amb Regi, supported by Saudi Arabia and China and our teams in Jeddah and Islamabad, we have successfully & safely evacuated over 1000 Pakistanis out of Sudan. With this our evacuation operations out of Sudan have ended”.

She said the evacuations through Jeddah will continue until last Pakistani returns safely.
