Pakistan desirous of strengthening ties with Qatar, Tajikistan

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan says Pakistan is desirous of strengthening ties with Qatar and Tajikistan.

He said this during meetings with Qatari and Tajik Ambassadors who called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Talking to Qatari Ambassador Saqr Bin Mubarak Al Mansouri, the Minister for Defence said the earlier visit of Emir of Qatar to Pakistan in March 2015, and recent visit of President of Pakistan proved fruitful to enhance the bilateral relations including military and defence cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister highlighted the Defence collaboration between Pakistan and Qatar has matured overtime specially in the domain of training.

The Qatari ambassador showed keen interest in learning about Pakistan’s potential of manufacturing Super Mushshak and JF-17 Thunder aircrafts at Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra.

Meanwhile, talking to the ambassador of Tajikistan Sherali Jononov, the Khurram Dastgir highlighted that being neighbors of Afghanistan, both Pakistan and Tajikistan are facing similar security challenges and threats.

He said Pakistan believes in peaceful resolution of all issues and appreciates the efforts of Tajikistan in promotion of peace and stability in the region.

Khurram Dastgir mentioned that CPEC will further provide new and unique opportunities for enhancing connectivity and integration from Gwadar to Kashgar and Murghab in Tajikistan.

He offered avenues for working out mechanisms for accelerating intelligence cooperation through high level interaction and exchange of military delegation and training of their armed forces in order to fight international crime and terrorism.

The Defence Minister also conveyed readiness of Pakistan to enhance the capacity of the Armed Forces of Tajikistan in areas of mutual interest especially through required technical assistance and defence industry.
