Pakistan emphasizes on political solution to Afghan conflict

TASHKENT: Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif has said that Pakistan always stressed to solve the Afghan conflict through a dialogue process as it is the best way to end the decades long conflict in the war affected country.

Khawaja Asif said this while addressing to the Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan on Tuesday. Foreign Minister highlighted the need of a regional approach and asked the international community to play their role in the peace process in the better interest of Afghans and the region as well.

He added that it is the responsibility of international community to bring Taliban on the table and establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Khawaja Asif further added that Pakistan supported President Ashraf Ghani’s national peace and reconciliation plan and his offer of peace talks to the Taliban.

He emphasized on the need of collective pressure on Taliban to avail this opportunity to shun violence and join the peace process.

On the margins of the Tashkent Conference, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif called on Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Conference.

Khawaja Asif also held bilateral meetings with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cevasoglu, EU Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Abdildaev Erlan and Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Li Baodong.
