Pakistan expresses grief over lives lost in Russian plane fire

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives and injuries to several others during an emergency landing by a Russian passenger plane in Moscow yesterday.

The plane, Aeroflot´s Sukhoi Superjet 100, erupted in a huge ball of fire and black smoke after making an emergency landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International airport, killing 41 people including at least two children.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal, in a statement, conveyed the country’s condolences to the bereaved families.

“We are saddened at the loss of so many precious lives and injuries to several others during an emergency landing by a Russian airliner yesterday,” the statement said.

“The people and the Government of Pakistan convey their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“We stand by the people of the Russian Federation in their hour of grief.”
