ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces along the Line of Control in Nikial Sector on Saturday.

According to Foreign Office, the latest Ceasefire violation resulted in the shahadat of a thirty years old woman and injuries to her three sisters.

Director General South Asia and SAARC Dr Muhammad Faisal said deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws.

He underscored that the ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.

The Director General urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Agreement, investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary.

He asked the Indian side to permit UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.

In 2018, the Indian forces have carried out more than 900 ceasefire violations so far on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary, resulting in the shahadats of twenty one innocent civilians and injuries to ninety others.
