Pakistan, Iran agree to further strengthen bilateral ties

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran on Friday have agreed to further strengthen mutual ties between both the Islamic countries.

In a tweet, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Faisal said, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua telephoned Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi to discuss matters of mutual interest.

The two sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas.

Miss Janjua illustrated Pakistan’s continued desire for peace and de-escalation of tensions in the region.

Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had exchanged views on overall regional situation and recent tensions between Pakistan and India.

In a telephonic conversation, PM Khan had apprised Hassan Rouhani about the ongoing escalation and Pakistan’s holding out an olive branch to the arch-rival country. Both the leaders also discussed Iran’s role in the current scenario.

The prime minister thanked the president for support on the Kashmir cause. They agreed to fortify the bilateral relations and increase cooperation between intelligence agencies to uproot terrorism.

PM Imran Khan also expressed sorrow over the recent terror attack in Iran.

Rouhani said Pakistan and Iran were Islamic states and were bonded in historical and cultural relations. He vowed to continue peace efforts for economic development in the region.
