Pakistan, Iran vow to enhance military-to-military ties

F.P. Report

TEHRAN: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the General Staff Headquarters in Tehran as part of an official tour to strengthen bilateral ties with regional partners, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

During his visit, Gen Munir held a meeting with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. The two senior military leaders held discussions on the evolving regional security environment and expressed a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral defence ties.

According to the ISPR, both sides explored ways to enhance military-to-military cooperation and border security mechanisms, with a view to transforming the Pakistan-Iran border into a hub of trade and economic connectivity, thereby contributing to regional stability and prosperity. The discussions also touched upon joint efforts to ensure regional peace and prosperity amid a shifting strategic landscape.

Upon his arrival in Tehran, the Pakistani army chief was given a warm welcome, including a ceremonial guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Iranian Armed Forces.

In addition to military engagements, Gen Munir also accompanied Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a high-level political delegation currently on an official tour of Türkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan. While in Tehran, the Pakistani leadership met with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
