Pakistan Study Centre marks birth day of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan

PESHAWAR: The management of Pakistan Study Centre, University of Peshawar conducted a daylong seminar on the life, achievements and services of the renowned political philosopher, academician and social reformer of south Asia, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan (1817-2017) to mark his 200th birth celebrations, on Tuesday.

Speakers shed light on various aspects of life and contributions of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan for the Muslims of South Asia. Varsity Teachers, intellectuals, research scholars and students attended the event in large number.

Prof Dr Fakhrul Islam, director of the Pakistan Centre was the keynote speaker. Addressing at the event, he said that after of war of independence in 1857, life had become a real challenge for the Indian Muslims as they had lost hope in their future. Mr. Islam said that the British East India company government had let loose the reign of terror on them and they were deprived of education, jobs, and other civil and political rights.

“It was in that difficult situation that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan came to the rescue of the Indian Muslims. He had rendered numerous religious, social, educational and political services for the Muslims as he was the harbinger of the Muslim political activism,” he said.

Mr. Islam said that Sir Syed had not only pleaded the Two Nation theory but the All India Muslim League was also founded at a meeting of the Muhammadan Educational conference , the latter being the brain child of the great scholar and mentor of the Muslims. He said that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was a perpetual fountain of inspiration for the young generation as they could draw fruitful lessons from his practical life.

“Sir Syed Ahmed Khan being a rationalist would always look things around him in a different way and would try to prove them on the basis of his own enlightened thinking.  We need to highlight positive aspects of such personalities. Young people should learn from the huge contributions made by Sir Ahmed Khan’s thoughts and philosophy,” Mr Islam advised.

Later, a question answer was also held in students participated and got answers to their queries from the scholars at the event.
