ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday summoned Indian Charge d’Affaires at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to register protest over the latest ceasefire violation by Indian border forces that used unprovoked firing at the Sialkot Working Boundary.
Foreign Office Spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry said Pakistan has lodged its protest on violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries and India should respect the agreement.
The latest unprovoked firing at Working Boundary is a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries and the first incident after both the militaries in February this year, had agreed to strictly observe a ceasefire at the de facto border between the two countries in the disputed region of Kashmir.
MOFA termed it “first serious and grave violation of Directors General Military Operation (DGMOs) understanding in 2021” by the Indian side.
Reports said, “The Indian BSF troops displayed aggressive behaviour by crossing the Working Boundary and blatantly using mortars with an intent to sabotage the peace along Line of Control and Working Boundary.”
Reports further said, “Troops from Indian BSF post in Square-9530 located in IIOJK Jammu Sector opposite Pakistani Charwa Sector fired approximately 30 rounds of the small arms and four bombs of 60-millimetre mortar at Pakistani post in Square-9630 without any provocation.
The incident happened when 15 BSF troops with three tractors crossed the Working Boundary and started ploughing on Pakistani side.
“When Pakistani Rangers Punjab troops tried to persuade BSF troops to return through loud hailers and whistles, Indian BSF troops responded by firing small arms and mortars at Pakistani post without any provocation.
The same BSF post took sniper shot at Pakistani post with the aim to score casualty.” In February, this year, the directors-general of military operations (DGMO) of the Indian and Pakistani militaries held discussions over a hotline between their offices and both sides agreed for strict observance of all agreements, understandings and cease firing along the Line of Control and all other sectors.
The talks were held “in a free, frank and cordial atmosphere”, as per the statement issued by ISPR.
