F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: A three-member delegation from the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport has completed a comprehensive aviation security audit of Islamabad International Airport, raising hopes for the restoration of direct flights from Pakistan to the UK by Pakistani airlines.

According to sources, the British team concluded its three-day visit to Pakistan on Friday after conducting detailed inspections of aviation security arrangements at the capital’s airport. The team expressed satisfaction with the security protocols in place, terming them consistent with international standards.

Officials from Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Airports Security Force (ASF) said the visit marks a positive step toward resuming flight operations between the two countries. “The British team left satisfied with the aviation security arrangements. Their audit will play a helpful role in restoring flights of Pakistani airlines to the UK,” CAA officials stated.

ASF spokespersons added that the purpose of the visit was to assess aviation security in line with international benchmarks. During their stay, the British delegation attended an inaugural meeting with the chief security officer and all key airport stakeholders. Following the meeting, the team conducted a hands-on review of the airport’s operational security.

The inspection included evaluation of security deployments, internal control mechanisms, the process of screening passengers and vehicles, issuance of security passes, and staff clearance protocols. The team also examined the ASF’s preparedness for emergency situations.

The British officials commended the ASF for its efforts in ensuring safe and secure air travel, noting significant improvements in both infrastructure and procedures.
