KARACHI: Pakistan’s exports to Japan has decreased to some extent which we want to increase, however, Japanese Consul General’s (CG) cooperation in this regard is needed. Japanese investors are aware of investment opportunities in Pakistan, and they feel comfortable in our country.
This was stated by Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment (SBI), Ms Naheed Memon during a meeting with Japanese Consul General to Karachi Toshikazu Isomura at her office. Ms Memon told the Japanese CG that the friendly old relations between Japan and Pakistan can further be strengthened through mutual cooperation in different sectors.
Memon said the volume of the mutual trade between Pakistan and Japan is around $ 1.75 billion per year which include exports and imports. She stressed the need to mobilize Pak-Japan Business Forum and said: “If Japan is interested in investment in some particular sectors in Pakistan, SBI is ready to extend all possible cooperation. The SBI chairperson said that the establishment of Special Economic Zone could also be discussed.
The Japanese CG agreed with the SBI chairperson and said that more benefits could be obtained from the investment opportunities through exchange of trade delegations between the two countries, and he agreed to extend every possible cooperation in this regard.
The CG was willing to enhance the trade in textile, sports goods, surgical items, sea food, leather items and mango imports from Pakistan. Memon said that Pakistan wanted the cooperation of Japan in information technology, education and vocational training sectors.
