‘Pakistan’s nuclear bombs not for Eid either’: Mufti hits back at Modi

SRINAGAR (Monitoring Desk): Indian opposition leaders including occupied Kashmir’s Mehbooba Mufti have hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bragging about the country’s nuclear capability for electoral gains.

Addressing an election rally in Rajasthan on Sunday, Modi threatened Pakistan, saying India’s nuclear capabilities were not being kept for “Diwali”.

Pakistan had denounced the statement, terming it “highly unfortunate and irresponsible”.
Mufti, a former chief minister of occupied Kashmir, took a jibe at Modi’s statement, saying if India’s nuclear were not meant for Diwali, Pakistan’s nukes were not meant for Eid either.

“Don’t know why PM Modi must stoop so low & reduce political discourse to this,” she tweeted.

Similarly, senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia said the nuclear button and the army were not the property of one individual, adding that the Modi-led BJP only stood for the politicisation of “every single institution” of the country, reported NDTV.

His party colleague and former home minister P Chidambaram echoed similar sentiments.

Nationalist Modi has used anti-Pakistan rhetoric to exploit the sentiments of the local Indians in a bid to secure the second tenure in the office.

Tensions with Pakistan soared after a suicide bomb attack in the Indian occupied Kashmir in which 40 Indian paramilitary police were killed.
