Parliamentary leaders’ meeting end without any big breakthrough

ISLAMABAD (Online) The meeting of the Parliamentary leaders Wednesday ended without any big breakthrough owing to differences of the political parties.

“Little bit development is done, however all parties have agreed to approve the bill in the presence of the PPP,” Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said after chairing the meeting and talking to media persons.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said overall consensus on all issues has reached, but it will be finalized tomorrow because PPP was not present in today’s meeting. He said there was a complete consensus on ending the controversy over finality of the Prophethood once and for all.

He said that this matter should also be taken up today (Thursday). He said that all issues will likely be settled today when PPP joins the meeting and with consensus constitutional amendments will be tabled in the parliament.

“Almost all the parties agreed making amendment in the constitution for delimitation, however another might be the final and decisive, has been summoned for today (Thursday) on the proposal of PTI, ” he claimed.

The leaders of political parties also failed to reach a consensus on the procedure of filing a corruption reference against an accused. The JI and PTI opposed the move regarding NAB and want the laws governing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) kept as they are, fearing that the government is pushing forward the legislation to protect Nawaz Sharif and his family.

The meeting being attended by Attorney General Ashtra Ausaf, law minister Zahid Hamid, minister for SAFRON Abdul Qadir Baloch minister for parliamentary affairs Sheikh Aftab, opposition leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rashid, Akram Durrani, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Balour, Mehmood Achakzai, Sahizada Tariqullah, secretary law chairman NADRA, Secretary election commission and statistical bureau.
