PAT’s enraged workers demand copy of Najfi report

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Friday has protested at Lahore’s Civil Secretariat Chowk and demanded from government to handover a copy of Baqir Najfi report on Model Town killings.

The protesters were led by Khurrum Nawaz Gandapur. As per details garnered, members of PAT reached aforementioned place to acquire a copy of Najfi report and got enraged upon after refusal from officials.

Later enraged protestors raised slogans against Punjab government and told media personnel that additional chief secretary was not providing the Najfi report.

While taking to media on the occasion, Gandapur stated that Punajb govt was compelled to provide a copy of Najfi report ahead of filing intra-court appeal against LHC’s verdict. “Report would unveil role of Punjab CM, Sanaullah in Model Town massacre.

We would request home Secretary to hand over the copy of report” Gandapur reported as saying. Lahore High Court on Thursday directed to public the judicial inquiry report of Model Town incident.

According to details, the verdict reserved two days back was announced by Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi. LHC also accepted the petition filed by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). On the other hand, the Punjab government has decided to file an intra-court appeal against LHC verdict.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Friday filed an application in the Lahore High Court to place names of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and former Inspector General Mushtaq Sukhera on the Exit Control List.

Ishtiaq Chaudhry, the counsel for PAT, filed the application stating that the court has ordered the Model Town incident inquiry report by Justice Mazahir Ali Baqir Najafi to be made public.

This has raised optimism that the incident which occurred in 2014 causing the death of fourteen people and injuries to around one hundred will reach its logical conclusion the justice will be served.

According to PAT, the three are responsible for the incident and are likely to flee the country if the trial in the case starts and evade justice. Therefore, the applicant prayed before the court that they should be barred from going abroad until the conclusion of the case.
