PCB to announce 15 players squad for World Cup today

LAHORE: The selection committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will announce the much-awaited Pakistan squad for World Cup 2019, on Thursday (today).

According to reports, a 15-player Pakistan squad will be chosen from a list of 23 players, who underwent fitness tests and participated in training sessions at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from April 13 to 17.

Pakistan Cricket Board said in a press release that Inzamam-ul-Haq, the men’s selection committee chairperson, will announce the World Cup squad in a press conference at 5:30pm today.

According to sources, opener Abid Ali and rookie pacer Mohammad Hasnain have passed the fitness test after failing to clear them at the first attempt.

All-rounder Imad Wasim is expected to undergo the fitness test later today after also failing to score the required points at the first try.

All World Cup-bound players will take part in further training sessions and attend open media sessions at the Gaddafi Stadium on April 20 and 21.

Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and coach Mickey Arthur will hold their joint departure press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium on April 22.

The team is scheduled to depart for England on Tuesday, April 23.

Pakistan will play their first World Cup match against West Indies at Trent Bridge on May 31, after playing warmup matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
