PCB’s medical head resigns after PSL 6 postponement

Monitoring Desk

LAHORE: After the postponement of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six, PCB’s Medical and Sports Sciences head, Dr Sohail Saleem has stepped down from his position as PCB faces tough questions regarding the breaches in the bio-secure bubble.

Various loopholes have been pointed out in the PCB’s bio-secure bubble since PSL 6 was postponed. According to sources, PCB officials are holding Sohail responsible for the mishaps.

The board had lost confidence in Sohail’s capabilities in arranging a bio-secure environment, which is why the board is likely to hire a foreign company, from England or Australia, for all the arrangements in this regard for future PSL matches.

It must be noted that when Pakistan toured England last year for their first series during the pandemic, Sohail travelled with the team and had a first-hand experience of the SOPs being followed by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

He also accompanied the national team during their tour to New Zealand as a bio-security officer and experienced the stringent SOPs put in place by New Zealand government during the quarantine period.
