PDA versus green-clean Pakistan
Implementation of Prime Minister Imran Khan Vision of green and clean Pakistan is what the people of the country have been anxiously waiting for. His actions and dedication to mitigate the impact of global warming and climate change on the country has been well acknowledged globally. In some government departments the officers genuinely want him to achieve this milestone. But in some autonomous bodies there is no dearth of high-ups who contribute towards air pollution.
The mechanism of solid waste disposal by Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) runs counter to the Prime Minister vision of green and clean environment to the people. Dumping ground out of Peshawar has not been acquired by PDA. The authority burns humongous quantity of this waste on daily basis, near the residential areas of Alharm Model Town and two residential phases of Hayatabad Township. Burning of this waste creates a huge volume of smoke and the people living in radius of two miles are at the mercy of PDA. Many residents of these localities posted their complaints against this health hazardous activity carried out by an entity of urban development on the Prime Minister Citizen Portal but to no vial. During the past two nights the choking density of smoke emitting from the burning solid waste made breathing difficult for the people. Is there anyone on high position in the provincial government who dare ask PDA about the deliberate polluting of environment? Is the provincial government not aware of the consequences of inhaling thick smoke that PDA produces by burning tons of garbage in the middle of residential areas? Hopefully an appropriate action shall be taken from both the KP CM and PM offices.
