PDMA issues floods warning for upper KP due to glaciers melting

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday alerted the district administrations and concerned departments about possible flash floods due to melting of glaciers on account of heat in the upper areas of Chitral, Kohistan, Dir and Swat.

In its letter, the PDMA asked concerned departments to alert locals and tourists visiting these areas about floods and to also ensure the provision of emergency and rescue services to them.

The Authority also directed these departments to keep the equipment ready in order to ensure a swift response in times of emergency.

Besides that, the PDMA emphasized that residents of these areas as well as tourists should be warned against travelling to the areas where floods were expected.

It informed people that its Emergency Operation Center was fully functional and asked them to dial helpline no 1700 in case of any unpleasant incident.
