PDMA, US-AID agree on burn & trauma centre

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: Inaugurated in 2003 by the then Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, the snail pace work on burn and trauma center of Peshawar could not completed so far and for completion of civic work another agreement of 647 million rupees signed between PDMA and USAID.

A marble name plate mixed to the incomplete building of the ‘Burn, Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery Centre’ at the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) in Peshawar shows that the project was initiated in July 3, 2003.

It was inaugurated by the former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani at the time when MMA – a coalition of six religious parties – was in power in KP. However, thirteen years since its inauguration the province’s only burn centre awaits completion of its construction work to operate for the victims of burn injuries.

Since 2003, a number of political figures that came to power in the interim have re-inaugurated the facility but no one has completed the project of this vital importance. The affected peoples of burn injuries are always shifting their patients to Karyan as the province lacks well equipped center.

Spokesman PDMA Temor Khan said that the construction work on burn and trauma unit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is underway and civic work will be completed up to June 2018. In this connection Provincial government, PARRSA and USAID have signed an agreement of 647 million rupees for civil works like sanitation, electrical work and decoration.

In this amount 630 KVA transformer, central air conditioning system, 1250 KV two back-up generators, supply of direct of wire from grid station, digging of tube well, medical gas system, installation of lifts, boundary walls and Sui gas lines

The funds would be provided from USAID as per the prescribed procedure of PaRRSA and provincial government. The agreement was signed By DG PDMA PaRRSA, Muhammad Khalid and USAID Mission Director Pakistan Jerry Besson. Other officer bearers of PDMA and USAID were also present on the occasion.

Earlier to this a bench of Peshawar High Court had also taken serious notice of this snail pace work on the only under construction facility of the burn and trauma unit of Peshawar at that time the bench also took notice of a woman with burn injuries who was shifted to other province due to lack of facilities in the KP hospitals.
