KABUL (TOLOnews): The PenPath Foundation said in a statement that the administration and volunteers in the organization are concerned about the continuing imprisonment of Matiullah Wasa, president and founder of the organiztion.
“Wesa has been detained for 114 days without any just cause. Afghan tribal leaders, scholars, the public, and followers of Wesa have repeatedly asked about his unlawful detainment,” the statement said.
The statement furthered said there is no clarity about Wesa’s situation, as his case was “recently transferred from GDI to the Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Offense Division, even though he should have been released by now.”
Wesa was an educational activist who launched widespread campaigns across Afghanistan for the reopening of schools for girls after the Islamic Emirate banned female students from grade 7 to 12 from going to their schools.
“So far, only one justification has been given, but there were widespread reactions to his arrest, nothing else is clear, even on both Eids,” the statement said. “He was not allowed to visit his family by phone or face to face.”
PenPath called on the leaders of the Islamic Emirate to prevent injustice and to responsibly perform God’s will to protect the poor children of their Muslim and oppressed nation.
The statement questioned the detention of Wesa, saying that he neither had any “political aim nor was a member of any political group, but he is treated so unfairly and without justice.”
On March 27, 2023, Wesa was arrested while he was returning from evening prayer at the mosque.
Wesa’s arrest sparked reactions at the national and international level.
