Peshawar schoolgirls told to ‘cover up’ to avoid ‘unethical incidents’
PESHAWAR: Peshawar district administration declared wearing chaddar, burka or gown mandatory for schoolgirls to avoid any ‘unethical incident’, according to an official notification on Monday.
In a notification by Peshawar District Officer Samina Ghani, schoolgirls have been asked to cover up ‘in order to protect them from any unethical incident.
The notification, addressed to heads of schools, stated that the matter ‘may be treated as most urgent and important.’
Provincial Adviser on Education Ziaullah Bangash said that the female students are harassed on the way to school. In light of these events and to ensure safety of the students, observing pardah or covering up has been declared mandatory.
