Petition, seeking LHC CJ Malik Shahzad’s dismissal, lands in SJC

F.P. Report

LAHORE: A petition was filed in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Sunday, seeking dismissal from service of Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan over ‘misconduct’.

In his petition, Rafaqat Ali Tanoli alleged that the CJ obstructed the provision of justice in the murder case of his son.

“And thereby the judge misused his office and post,” the petitioner said.

It must be noted that the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) had approved the nomination of LHC CJ Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan as an Supreme Court (SC) judge by a majority of five to four.

Later, the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment too also approved his nomination.

The notification for his appointment is likely to be issued soon after Eidul Azha.

After Justice Shahzad’s speech on Friday in which he, while criticizing the establishment’s interference in judicial matters, had said that soon that interference would end, a smear social media campaign was launched against him.
