PHC stops PESCO from receiving FPA

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has stopped receiving of Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) from electricity consumers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Friday.

A divisional of PHC comprising of Justice Rooh-ul-Amin and Justice Shahid Khan has directed Federal Government, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Peshawar Electricity Supply Company ((PESCO) and National Electricity and Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to submit comments.

The writ petition filed Shahid Qayyium Advocate stated that electricity generated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from hydro sources while surplus production is provided to federation while in distribution from national grid, FPA is receiving from the residents of the province which is illegal.

The petition argued that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sufficient water resources while electricity is also generating from hydro sources and added that liability of FPA will be placed on petroleum based power’s consumers.

The applicant added that FPA is receiving from poor consumers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while it also violates right of the residents of the province. The divisional bench of after initial arguments has stopped receiving of FPA from consumers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and directed respondents to submit comments.
